Should I use silicon paper or tin foil in the oven?

The choice of silicon silicon paper or tin foil for ovens should be based on the purpose for which it is used. Both silicon paper or tin foil have different functions in baking and each has its own needs.

Silicone Oil Paper

Silicone paper, also known as anti-stick paper, is a commonly used external wrapping paper in everyday life. It is made up of three layers: base paper, laminate and silicone oil, with the laminate sandwiched between the other two layers.

Scenarios for the use of silicone paper

Silicone greaseproof paper is a silicone-treated, high-temperature resistant baking paper. When baking biscuits, place it on the baking tray to prevent them from sticking together and a small amount of spilled grease, which sticks to the baking tray, is also easier to clean

Precautions for using silicone paper

If cake moulds, toast boxes have poor anti-adhesive properties and are inconvenient to release, siliconized paper can be cut to the right size and padded inside the mould to make it easier to release the finished product. You can also use silicon paper to pad the steamer when making buns and steamed buns, which also has a non-stick effect.
A sheet of silicon paper can be used 2 or 3 times, but if it becomes discoloured or has a lot of sticky residue, it should be replaced.

Tin foil

Tin foil, which is actually aluminium foil. Aluminium foil, also known as aluminium foil, is a thin sheet with a thickness of 0.2mm or less processed by an aluminium foil mill and is mainly used in kitchens for cooking, holding food, or for making materials that can be simply cleaned.

Features of tin foil

Tin foil conducts heat very well and has an airtight seal. When baking some recipes for meat or vegetables, wrapping the ingredients in tin foil will lock in the moisture well and give the food a tender texture. Tin foil can also be used when baking biscuits or bread to prevent sticking. When baking meat we can also place tin foil on the bottom of the baking tray to catch the grease and make it easier to clean the tray.Choose silicon paper or tin foil

Difference between silicon paper or tin foil applications

Uses of silicone oil paper

  1. Silicone greaseproof paper is an essential tool when making cake rolls. For one thing, it can be used on the baking tray to make it easier to release the cake from the mould; for another, the greaseproof paper is soft and can easily be used with a rolling pin to roll up the cake. Here, you definitely can’t use tin foil as it is a harder material.
  2. As tinfoil is not microwaveable, silicon paper should be used if you need to microwave.

Uses of tin foil

  1. Place on a baking tray to save the trouble of cleaning the tray, especially when baking small snacks and biscuits.
  2. Cover with tin foil during baking to prevent over-colouring of the surface, plus it flattens out the heat radiation on the surface of the cake and reduces cracking of the surface.
  3.  It can be used to wrap meat and bake it, so that the baked meat is more tender and has sufficient moisture.
  4. It can also be used to wrap live-bottom moulds into solid-bottom moulds, so that you can use the water bath baking method without a solid-bottom mould.
